
Press Release iShares, Inc. Announced Final Tax Characteristics of August 31, 2001 Distributions
San Francisco - December 14, 2001 - iShares, Inc. announced todaythe final tax characteristics of its fiscal year-end distributions (8/31/01)paid to shareholders of record as of August 28, 2001 of its funds. The amountof distribution referred to as return of capital is considered by the InternalRevenue Service to be a return of invested capital and should generally beapplied to reduce the tax cost basis of the shares upon which the distributionswere paid. iShares, Inc. expects no additional capital gain distributions inDecember.
iShares, Inc. is providing this information in an effort to assistinvestors with year-end tax and investment planning. iShares are designed tohave relatively low portfolio turnover, which minimizes capital gainsdistributions to investors.
